ASMINA: "Female name of the Nubian peoples of southern Sudan."

Located in Seattle, Asmina has been dancing the dance of the Middle East now since early 2002. She has studied under Saqra & Nabeela El Shalimar.

A fan of choreography, Asmina enjoys incorporating the Zills and the beauty of the veil into her routines. She is also working on incorporating sword & candles as well AND she is learning to play the doumbek (Middle Eastern Drum) and the Riq (Middle Eastern Tambourine). To Asmina, this dance is the epitome of "womanhood" and enjoys every aspect of it.

An aspiring filmmaker & a freelance writer, Asmina is the Bellydancing host at BellaOnline.com. She is also the creator/producer of a Seattle area TV show called, "Rak On! Bellydance". Asmina has plans for a book, a screenplay AND a documentary on the dance entitled, "Aiwa!: Bellydancers of Color". Asmina hopes to expose people of all ages, genders and ethnicities to this amazing artform. In 2005, Asmina joined the Bellydancers of Color Association (BOCA), a Washington DC based organization formed to celebrate the sister/brotherhood, strength and beauty of people of color in relation to bellydance and other traditional forms of dance.

Asmina's daughter, Jordan (pictured on the left), has embarked into the beauty of Middle Eastern dance as well. She's taken classes with Nabeela el Shalimar, attended workshops by Oreet Jehassi and participated in troupe performances with her mother. Her journey into the dance has already been documented on the web and she is even a model in the book by The Costume Goddess, "Headpieces for Bellydancers ". In Summer 2005, Jordan was added as a co-host to "Rak On! Bellydance".

She is a quick learner and already at an early age, exhibits the traits of a great dancer: a love of the music/art, an eagerness to learn and the tenacity to stick with it until she gets it RIGHT. She plays zills exceptionally well, too! Jordan continues to perform solo in various MED events and community venues. Asmina & Jordan are also planning to work together as a monther/daughter dancing duo in the months to come.

With Both Asmina & Jordan wanting to continue to explore the world of dance, they are embarking on the ATS (American Tribal Style) form of bellydance.
